CDHM Council Update November 2010

Posted by CDHM INFO On December - 15 - 2010

As of November 23rd 2010, the College of Dental Hygienists of Manitoba Council has 3 new members.  Ms. Nadine Cartman and Ms. Andrea Fruehm were both elected to Council as dental hygiene representatives at the Annual General Meeting in October 2010.  The CDHM’s 3rd member is Mr. Harvey Fineman who is a public representative appointed by Manitoba Health.  All 3 new Council members have a wide breadth of experience and we look forward to working with such committed individuals.

As well, Council elected a new Chair and Vice-Chair.  Congratulations to both Ms. Patti Hawthorn and Ms. Terry Phillips in their respective roles.

The Council thanked Ms. Mickey Wener for her role as the CDHM Council Chair over the last three years and throughout her role as the Chair of the Transitional Council.  Ms. Wener’s ongoing passion and longstanding support of the dental hygiene profession are appreciated and will still be utilized as she maintains her role as a member for Council.

Thank you to all who make the College a great success!

Annual General Meeting

Posted by CDHM INFO On December - 15 - 2010

The CDHM Annual General Meeting held on October 23rd 2010 was a great success! A few higlights of the morning include a presentation provided by the Council Chair, Ms. Mickey Wener, regarding Dental Hygiene Practice in Manitoba and Canada.  Ms. Wener also led an access to care ownership linkage session whereby hygienists were asked specific questions about what services they felt they could be provided in different types of settings while looking at opportunities and barriers.  Mr. Doris Lavoie, the Executive Director of the National Dental Hygiene Certification Board, through his presesntation highlighted changes that are being implemented to the NDHCB Exam commencing in 2011. Mr. Kyle Conrad presented information on the success of the student run WISH clinic.  The CDHM By-Laws were reviewed and approved by the membership and two new members were elected to the CDHM Council, Ms. Nadine Cartman and Ms. Andrea Fruehm.  I would like to thank both Salme Lavigne and Christine Ronceray for being valuable members of the Council, their dedication and commitment are much appreciated.

Thank you,

CDHM Amended By-laws

Posted by CDHM INFO On December - 9 - 2010

On October 23 2010 the CDHM held its Annual General Meeting (AGM). As per section 54(2) of The Dental Hygienists Act the by-laws may be amended and repealed ‘after notice is given in accordance with the by-laws, a by-law under section (1) may be amended or repealed by a majority of the members of the college

(a) present and voting at a general meeting; or
(b) voting in a mail vote or other method of voting conducted in accordance with the by-laws.

At the AGM the membership voted to amend the by-laws so that they now contain the most current version of the CDHA’s Code of Ethics.

A Code of Ethics is a document that is designed to set out acceptable behaviours that registrants of a profession are expected to incorporate into their practice. As well, a Code of Ethics can also increase confidence in a governing body by indicating to the public that registrants of the organization are committed to following basic ethical guidelines in the course of providing treatment.
