It’s Registration Renewal Time!

The 2019 Annual Registration is now open; it closes at 11:59 pm on January 7th, 2019, after which a late fee of 200.00 will be applied. This is a change from previous years to allow you greater flexibility. Your current CDHM registration will expire on January 14, 2019. To renew your registration, go to the CDHM website.

Steps for Registration Renewal:

1. Visit and click on the “sign in” registration renewal button.

2. Enter your CDHM four-digit registration number. (if necessary add a 0, or a series of 0’s, in front of your number to make it into a four-digit number)

3. Enter your password. If you have forgotten your password, go to: “Click here if you don’t have, or have forgotten your password.” Your password will be sent to your email on record with the CDHM. Please note, this may take up to 2 hours to receive depending on your service provider.

4. Complete the renewal application and upload all the necessary documents. Practicing registrants are required to upload their CPR cards and malpractice insurance memorandum. If you do not know your CPR instructor’s name, insert the name of the provider; for example, Heart and Stroke

5. Under the Employer Section of your profile, enter your practice hours from January 15, 2018 to January 14, 2019 by clicking the Edit Employment tab. To calculate your practice hours; enter the number of hours worked weekly, multiplied by the number of weeks worked in a year (minus holiday time). For example: if you practiced 30 hours in one-week x 48 weeks in the year (4 weeks holiday time taken) =1440 practice hours worked in 2018.

6. Pay your registration fee: Practicing $515.00 or Non-Practicing $265.00 with a Visa, Visa Debit or MasterCard. The fee increase of $15.00 from the 2018 fee, represents an averaged Canadian cost of living (COLA) adjustment of 2.9 %.

If you are cancelling your CDHM registration or need assistance contact the CDHM office at (204) 219-2678 or email

Continuing Competency Program (CCP) Requirements

The CCP program remains intact with a few modifications. To better meet the expectations of public protection, you will now be required to submit your annual CCR and PAR learnings through Alinity on an annual basis. New upgraded Alinity software will allow you to upload your CCR and PAR by using fill-able online forms. You will log into Alinity, in a similar way you do for registration renewal. Previously, you would complete your CCP requirements, fill out paper forms and hold onto your documentation until you were required to submit your documents for an audit. Now, once you have completed a CCR or PAR, you will be able to upload your submissions directly into Alinity by completing the online forms. This change will eliminate the need to email your CCP documents to the CDHM office.

The deadline for having your CCP documentation complete is still April 30th of every year. Now, April 30th will also be the deadline for having your annual CCP documentation uploaded into Alinity. Your annual submission will be verified by CDHM staff by the due date and randomized audits of registrant online CCP submissions will be conducted by the CCP Reviewers.

The audits will be determined by an algorithm built into the upgraded Alinity software. Rather than always conducting an audit on 3 years of CCP submissions, Reviewers may audit one, two or three years of your submissions, depending on the randomized audit schedule. Once audited, the submissions included in your audit will not be used in any future audit but will remain archived in the computer system.

The CCP forms that you have been using for submission are the same with a few minor changes, including a portrait orientation, removal of duplicity and minor edits to some questions. The registrant feedback form will remain the same for 2019, but changes are planned for the following year.

The transition to the new version of the Alinity software is not yet complete, so in the meantime, until you can upload your CCP online, continue to pursue CCP activities, keeping good notes so you are ready to upload your information when the Alinity software upgrade is complete towards the end of January 2019. Be sure to obtain course certificates of completion, course outlines etc of learnings completed so you have the documents ready to upload onto Alinity when the site is open. You will be notified when the site is up and running. To assist in this transition to annual uploading of your CCP, the CDHM office will provide you with reminder emails through Spring of 2019.

The CCP Guideline package has been condensed and revised; it will be posted on the website for your review along with the modified forms. These will be posted in the next week.

Journal Clubs and Study Clubs

Many of you have been waiting for clarification on how to organize and sign up for a Study Club or Journal Club. First, thank-you for your patience. Secondly, the ‘Study Group ’to which many of you have belonged, is no longer an option. To clarify and target your learning, you need to identify your ‘group’ as either a ‘Study Club’ or a ‘Journal Club’. The description of these two very different ‘clubs’ are as follows:

Study Club

The concept of a study club is individuals who meet regularly to facilitate learning through a variety of methods, combining traditional mentored group “study” with that of constructive learning. This is based on the idea that learning is active and constructed; learners build new knowledge upon the foundation of previous learning.
Some groups may choose to have a mentor to guide the learning; others will share the responsibility amongst the group members. The mentor acts to engage members and facilitates group interaction in developing understanding, assessing knowledge, and thereby, learning.

Journal Club

The purpose of a journal club is to facilitate the review of specific evidence-based research and to discuss implications for clinical practice. It is a valued educational resource as the fundamental concept of a journal club is to “improve [client] care by incorporating evidence into practice”; the implementation of what one learns and knows into clinical practice.
A journal club offers the opportunity for participants to review and discuss the current, academic literature, and provides a forum for developing skills in critical appraisal for evaluation of the literature, an essential part of being a competent clinician.

Examples of Study Club and Journal Club Learning

Study Club

• May have clinical and/or non-clinical components
• Research-orientated
• Could include Case Study review
• Activities may comprise of a combination of approaches that lend themselves to selected topic(s) which could include speakers and/or presentations

Journal Club

• Critically evaluate recent articles in the academic literature
• Literature review of a topic
• Single article review
• Specific Journal review

Examples of NEITHER

• Lunch and Learn
• Communication and/or networking between colleagues

How to Sign-Up

To sign-up for a Study Club or Journal Club, a ‘Club’ representative provides the necessary details to the registrar via email. More information is required than previously requested for sign-up. Please see the links below for the journal and/or study club sign-up forms, which should be printed, scanned and emailed to the registrar at Additional Study Club and Journal Club information is attached for your review. If you have already provided a list of names for your ‘Study Group’ to the CDHM office, please determine whether you are a ‘Study Club’ or a Journal Club’ and re-submit completing the appropriate sign-up information to the registrar.
